We’re looking for someone who loves being outdoors, has some basic plant care knowledge and excellent salesmanship.  Western Market is a diverse, fast-paced work environment that challenges individuals seeking to grow into skilled, knowledgeable and passionate team members.  Our seasonal Garden Center features the highest quality perennials and annuals, garden art, mulches and planting media.  This position is seasonal, offering up to thirty (30) hours per week during the months of May and June; the number of available hours may be reduced during the months of July through September.  We prefer someone with who doesn’t mind getting a little dirty and who enjoys working outdoors in all sorts of weather.  This position will require some customer service, but will focus on technical plant care tasks and includes training by our Garden Center Manager.

You’ll have to meet the following requirements in order to apply:

  • Have open availability, including weekends.
  • Be available for opening shifts beginning at 7AM.
  • Be available 24-30 hours per week, consistently.
  • Have reliable transportation.

Position Summary:

The Garden Center Team Member is responsible for maintaining a clean, well-stocked, and properly merchandised outdoor sales area.  This position includes plant care duties and requires some product knowledge.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Water and care for plants, including deadheading and removing dead leaves.
  • Merchandise, price and price check inventory.
  • Track waste according to system provided.
  • Maintain the highest level of quality control standards at all times.
  • Provide exceptional customer service
  • Maintain a clean and safe work environment.

Other Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Answer department phone calls and take messages.
  • Assist customers in all Departments as needed.
  • Follow-up on Customer Requests as delegated.
  • Perform Customer carry-outs as requested.

Special Considerations:

  • Ability to lift up to 25 lbs.
  • Working conditions include a fast-paced retail environment that involves long intervals of standing, crouching and reaching while moving product.  Exposure all weather conditions, including rain, wind and extreme heat and sun.
