Counter Clerk – Meat Dept P/T



We’re seeking someone who loves food and cooking, has a cheerful disposition, experience as a team player and excellent customer service skills to join our Meat, Seafood and Deli Department Team!   Western Market is a diverse, fast-paced work environment that challenges individuals seeking to grow into skilled, knowledgeable and passionate team members.  While no direct Meat Department experience is necessary, we’re looking for someone who understands the fundamentals of cooking and is finely attuned to small details and quality … and is comfortable handling raw meats, poultry and fish.

You’ll have to meet the following requirements in order to apply:

  • Open availability, including nights and weekends.
  • Be available at least 24 hours per week, consistently.
  • Have reliable transportation.

Position Summary:

The Meat Counter Clerk services customers and maintains a clean and orderly workspace.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Fulfill customer orders and requests made at the Meat, Seafood and Deli Counter.
  • Provide friendly customer service to all guests with care, respect and a positive attitude.
  • Practice safe food handling procedures.
  • Ensure that the product case is full, neat and attractively merchandised.
  • Safely clean slicers and other equipment throughout the day
  • Sweep, clean glass, remove trash and maintain sanitation.
  • Monitor product levels in coolers and communicate product levels to Supervisors.

Special Considerations:

  • Ability to lift up to 20 lbs.
  • Working conditions include a fast-paced retail environment that involves long intervals of standing, crouching and reaching while moving product.  This job includes moderate exposure to cold temperatures while performing some tasks.  Little to no outdoor work is required.
  • Language Skills: Intermediate.
  • Mathematical Skills: Basic.
  • Reasoning Ability: Intermediate.
  • Equipment used:Knife; Slicer; Cheese shredder; Scale; Calculator

Hours per Week: 18-24 hours
